Defrocked Episcopal clergyman Dr. T. Lawrence Shannon (Richard Burton) leads a busload of middle-aged Baptist women on a tour of the Mexican coast.
Driven to distraction by the hostility of the group’s leader (Grayson Hall) and the attentions of a seductive teenager (Sue Lyons), Reverend Shannon has an alcoholic breakdown and hijacks the group off of the scheduled tour through the Mexican jungle to a dilapidated hotel owned by an old friend’s wife (Ava Gardner).
