What Will Re-Open First? Likely More Access to Parks & Outdoors

With an updated public health order coming this week that are expected to extend “stay-at-home” guidelines through the end of May, will also come a few easing of restrictions.

So far, the 6-county Bay Area alliance (Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo and San Francisco, plus the city of Berkeley) has been vague about which restrictions will be eased.

“The new order will include limited easing of specific restrictions for a small number of lower-risk activities.”

But the Mercury News reports that sources say that the order may include some relaxed restrictions include, “open access to more parks and allow more outdoor activities that don’t violate social distancing rules.”

For context, Napa and Santa Cruz counties, which are not part of the Bay Area alliance but closely follow its public health rules, recently reduced restrictions on construction as well as beach and park access.

Weather is good and parks may be busy – stay close to home – consider walking in your neighborhood – visit parks on less crowded days or times – if parks are too crowded, visit on a different day or time – no picnicking and group activities are allowed by the “Stay-at-Home” order. *Some parks, parking lots, and staging areas are closed to prevent overcrowding, so check ebparks.org before you go.
