SF May Resume Street Sweeping Tickets Again. And Soon.
Back on March 17th, the city of San Francisco put a temporary moratorium on issuing parking tickets for street sweeping in order to help out people who were isolating at home or not able-bodied enough to move their cars each week.
But that “free pass” on street cleaning day may be coming to an end, soon.
UPDATE – As of June 15th San Francisco will resume issuing tickets for street sweeping.
In a Monday afternoon press conference, San Francisco Mayor London Breed said that because so many people are not moving their cars, even able-bodied people, that it’s creating hazards for the city and that she may have to order San Francisco to resume issuing of parking tickets for street sweeping violations. The city will monitor the situation this week before deciding if ticketing will resume.
The SFMTA says that street sweeping is crucial to prevent trash buildup and local flooding. Check for updates under the “Parking Enforcement” section of the SFMTA Covid-19 Response page.
“Street cleaning has been a problem. People are not moving their cars,” said Mayor Breed. “For those of you who are able-bodied… and can move your cars for street sweeping, I’m asking you to do so.”
