Overall Crime in SF Down 17.2% in 2020
Thanks to a user named re4343 on Reddit for letting us know the San Francisco Crime Dashboard, run by the SFPD, shows an overall decrease of 17% in reported crime of year-over-year. The stats run from January 1 to July 5 and are updated weekly.
Although homicide shows an increase of 31.6% from last year, overall violent crime is down 15.2% from 2019. “Violent crime” includes homicide, rape, robbery, assault and human trafficking.
Property crimes are down 17.4% with the majority of the decrease due to a 29.3% drop in larceny theft. Among the types of crime that have seen increases so far in 2020: Burglary (up 36.9%), Motor vehicle theft (up 22.5%) and arson (up 42.5%).
Where Crime is Up
Central station (Downtown, Union Square, North Beach, Russian Hill) reported the largest drop in overall crime for the year, dropping 43.2%, followed by the Tenderloin which say a 33.8% drop.
Where Crime is Down
The largest increase in reported crime came from Park station (NoPa, Haight, Duboce Triangle) (including 73.8% rise in burglary). Ingleside saw the next largest rise in crime from last year with a 15.8% rise including 71.5% increase in motor vehicle theft
