New Skateboarding “Speed Bumps” Added to Dolores Street
Thank you KRON4 and SFGATE for letting us know that the annual “Hill Bomb” skateboarding event raised concerns about public safety and led the SFMTA to install speed bumps at the foot of Dolores Street hill to try to stop skateboarders.
Update: SF Examiner reports that a 23-year-old bicyclist was killed in a “hill bomb” collision with a skateboarder.
During the most recent “Hill Bomb” events, multiple people were transported to SF General with serious injurie
Supervisor Rafael Mandelman worked with SPFD, MTA, and Public Works to find a solution that will help discourage skateboarders from speeding down the hill. This past weekend, SFMTA installed a strip of speed bumps at Dolores and 20th Street.
SF has a world renowned skate scene I love. So I hate doing this to Dolores. But two pointless deaths. Consulting now with leaders about building stronger skate culture and co-designing Slow Streets pic.twitter.com/XElGjEmrUo
