- What is the occasion for the San Francisco Opera Costume Shop Sale?
It is important for San Francisco Opera to stay connected to its incredibly loyal and generous patrons. In the past, the Costume Shop sale has been one of the most anticipated events by patrons and the general public. The Opera is proud to make these costumes, handmade mainly by San Francisco Opera artisans, available to the public. - Who receives the proceeds from the Costume Shop Sale?
Proceeds will benefit San Francisco Opera and support general operating expenses including artist support, young artist development, and educational programs. Please note, purchases from the sale are not tax deductible. - In which productions were the costumes worn?
The Merry Widow (2001), Die Fledermaus (1990, 1996, 2006), Tannhäuser (2007), and additional pieces from other San Francisco Opera productions. - Who designed the costumes?
The costumes feature designs by Thierry Bosquet (The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus), John Macfarlane (Don Giovanni, 2007) and Paul Brown (Tannhäuser), among others, and were mainly constructed by San Francisco Opera artisans. - How many costumes will be available for sale?
At this time, we expect over 500 costumes will be available. - How many times have these costumes been worn?
Every costume was worn at least once in a San Francisco Opera production. As such, some costumes may have minor wear and tear. Unfortunately, we cannot accurately determine how many times a costume has been worn. - Can I buy just one part of the costume?
The costumes are sold as a complete set and cannot be separated. - How do I determine if the costume will fit me?
We encourage you to view our sizing charts: Women | Men – Measurements charts and instructions will also be available as a part of the purchase flow, and costume sizes will be designated in the item description. - Can costumes be altered?
Most can be altered with caution. As these costume are one-of-a-kind, we highly suggest that they be altered by a professional. - How much do the costumes cost?
Costume price range from $75–1,000, plus shipping and taxes. - Is shipping included in the cost?
Shipping is calculated during checkout based on size, weight, and shipping option and is not included in the cost. The local pickup option is free of charge. - Can costumes be returned or exchanged?
No. All sales are final. - Can I pick up my purchase instead of having it shipped?
Yes! During checkout, choose the “Pickup In Store” option, then select your desired pickup date and time from the available options. Costumes must be picked up from our location in Burlingame no later than November 24, 2020. Location details will be provided in your confirmation email. - How long will it take to receive my costume purchase?
Shipping times will depend upon the volume of orders received and the shipping method chosen by you. Choosing the local pickup option will allow you to schedule a specific date and time to pick up your order. - What are the hours of the Costume Shop Sale?
The online sale at sfopera.com/costumesale opens to the public at 12 pm on Friday, November 13 and ends at 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 15 (all times Pacific Standard Time). - Can I purchase a costume after the sale?
Unfortunately, the costumes are only available for purchase during the window of the sale. - Can I combine my purchase with items from the San Francisco Opera Shop?
Due to the unique nature of the Costume Shop Sale, items in the San Francisco Opera Shop must be purchased in a separate transaction. Please note, the pick-up option is NOT available for San Francisco Opera Shop purchases. We are only shipping San Francisco Opera Shop purchases at this time. - Who can I contact if I have additional questions?
The San Francisco Opera Box Office will be available to answer questions at (415) 864-3330 from 10am–6pm Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14; and from 10am–8pm Sunday, November 15. Or you can email your questions to costumesale@sfopera.com and someone will get back to you within 24 hours. - Will I receive a confirmation when my item is shipped?
