It might not always seem like it, but we actually do love tomato toast. And tomatoes. What we occasionally get grumpy and judgy about are the pale pink mealy ones you find at the supermarket in the middle of winter. So we wait – for deep crimson early girls, for purple cherokees, for green zebras – for the time of year when all they need is some salt and a piece of crusty bread.

They’re now finally here, so we’re going all in while we have them. On Thursday, August 27th, join us for a special menu that features tomatoes in every (on-brand) way we can come up with. You can have them on toast, you can have them in your cocktail, and you can have them for dessert. And for the brave among you… you can have them covering every inch of your body.

In a nod to La Tomatina, the annual Spanish festival commemorating the season, we’re hosting our very own tomato fight right outside in Lower Polk Plaza at 6:30pm. There’s no cost for spectators, but there’s a $20 registration fee per combatant. That buys you a basket of ammunition fruit, a custom keepsake towel, and helps us cover the cost of cleanup.

All food and drinks will be available a la carte, and there’s no need to sign up or pay upfront if you prefer your tomatoes on your plate. You can make a reservation on Tock, which we highly recommend for guaranteeing yourself a table

On Thursday, August 27th, join El Lopo for a special menu that features tomatoes in every (on-brand) way we can come up with. You can have them on toast, you can have them in your cocktail, and you can have them for dessert. And for the brave among you… you can have them covering every inch of your body.
In a nod to La Tomatina, the annual Spanish festival commemorating the season, we’re hosting our very own tomato fight right outside in Austin Alley at 6:30pm. This year, for the first time, it’s a competition, and you’ll need a posse.
Here’s how it works. Six posses of five. Each posse takes a turn on the tarp, one member at a time, while their teammates on the perimeter provide covering fire. Your champion has to carry a cup of gazpacho across the course, under bombardment, while spilling as little as possible. Fullest jar at the end of the night wins.
The alley isn’t the only way to earn points. There’s a blind tasting judged by the people, a prize for the best posse name and costume, and a handful of other ways to prove you’re the ripest one on the vine.
The winning posse gets free tomato toast for the rest of the season, up to twice a day. (Non-bread-eaters: we’ll make you something else yummy.)
Registration is $20 per combatant, five to a posse. That buys you a basket of ammunition fruit, a bandana, and helps us cover the cost of cleanup.
A few house rules. Overripe tomatoes only, squashed before throwing. No headshots (your team loses volume if you take one). Nothing thrown at anyone off the tarp. No glasses in the alley, and BYO eye protection.
Spectating is free and always will be. All food and drinks will be available a la carta, and there’s no need to sign up or pay upfront if you prefer your tomatoes on your plate. You can make a reservation on Tock, which we highly recommend for guaranteeing yourself a table.
