SF’s Only Indoor Ice Rink Is Back After Major Upgrades
The Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, which has taken over operations of the rink and adjoining bowling center, invested $650,000 in improvements to the ice arena. That includes rebuilt compressors, upgrades to the cooling and dehumidification systems, plus improvements to bathrooms, showers and the scoreboard.
The reopening hasn’t been entirely drama-free, with some longtime adult hockey players raising concerns about later game times and reduced ice availability. But the conservancy says the changes are part of a broader effort to make more room for public skating, youth programs and figure skating.
The rink is also offering $50,000 in learn-to-skate scholarships as part of a plan to turn the ice arena and bowling center into year-round community recreation hubs.
