Dolores Park | 19th Street and Dolores Street, San Francisco, CA

Event Details

The northern half of Dolores Park opens after months of construction  and the park halfway through a $20.5 million renovation.

Technically the “opening” is at 3pm with a big silent disco party (it’s sold out, by the way), but we are told that the barricades will start coming down around 7am when they will get moved to the south half of the park which will undergo its own 6-8 month makeover.

Brand New Tennis Courts

The courts are completely resurfaced, with a new bigger entrance on the south end of the courts.

200,000 Square Feet of New Grass

Will the park every look this beautiful again? The park gets about 7,000-10,000 people enjoying it on a typical sunny weekend day. They remade the entire lawn similar to how they build golf courses with a brand new drainage system underneath the lawn to help minimize mud pits after heavy rains.

The Park is now ADA & Stroller Friendly

This ADA compliant path winds through the park given much better access for both wheel chairs and strollers.

The New Roller Hockey, Bike Polo & Dodge Ball Court

Say hello the park’s new multi-use court on the north west corner. It’s good for roller hockey, bike polo, dodge ball or whatever new sports haven’t even been invented yet.

The Dog Area has Really Cute Markers

Want to know where it’s ok to let your dog off leash? Just look down for these cute little engraved paw prints to designate  an off-leash dog play area. It stretches from the promenade to the 18th street entrance, to the crest of a small incline.

Free Wifi!

Yes, these funny boxes attached to the light posts over the tennis courts are here to provide you with free WiFi throughout the park.

They’re REALLY Trying to Keep Dolores Park Clean

People generally treat Dolores Park like a movie theater… enjoy your afternoon and then toss your crap on the ground and walk away. The city is launching a new campaign called LoveDolores to try to retrain people to take their trash out with eco pop ups around the perimeter of the park. Their research said that 80% of people who little do it because it’s socially acceptable, not because there’s not enough garbage cans. So let the shaming begin.

5x the Bathrooms as Before

When the park is fully completed, there will be 21 stalls throughout the park – up from 4 previously – 14in the north half and 13 in the south half. This is one of the shiny new bathrooms. There are no paper towel dispensers to try to help keep trash to a minimum

This is the Old Bathroom – Good Riddance

This is all that’s left of the old bathrooms which were f*cking disgusting, covered in graffiti and had ridiculous lines. We can’t say we’ll miss you.

This is the Scary Path to the Playground

During the next 6 months of construction, the Playground will remain open even though it lies in the south side of the park. This is the rather scary pathway talking you through the DMZ to the playground. We hope by the time the park opens this walkway will be a little more inviting.

New Wide Entry Way for Festival & Maintenance Trucks

Whenever there’s a big festival or event in the park that requires a big stage like the symphony, Hunky Jesus or SF Mime Troup, they need to bring in the stage on trucks. Previously the trucks would tear up the lawn. Now the road is wide enough so that the lawn should say pretty and pristine.

Beautiful Park Porn

Once the park opens you’ll probably never see the park this clean or beautiful again. Let’s enjoy this moment while it lasts for one more day.
