“Afrocinematika: Women of Afrofuturist Film” + Q&A at SFO Museum (Free Parking)

Curated by filmmaker and artist Celia C. Peters, Afrocinematika will showcase powerful, innovative short science fiction films that shine a light on the Women of Afrofuturism. These films represent a new approach to speculative storytelling in film, one that centers the Black experience while reflecting agency, culture, science, technology, and an intersection with the unknown. Afrocinematika is the next wave of Afrofuturist film: thought-provoking Black science fiction expressed through compelling cinematic storytelling.

Four filmmakers’ short films will be presented by SFO Museum in conjunction with the Women of Afrofuturism exhibition in Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at the San Francisco International Airport. Filmmaker and artist Celia C. Peters, whose work is featured in the exhibition, will lead a discussion of the films after the screening.
