Join the engineering nerds at Airbnb for bi-weekly tech talks and light bites at their office at 888 Brannan in SoMa.
They host interesting speakers on the cutting edge of new front- and back-end technologies, security experts, talks by their own team about work they’re doing to be open source, increase performance, and more. Check out their past talks to get a taste of what to expect.
Lead search engineer Maxim Charkov will be talking about how they do search at Airbnb. He’ll be talking about the complexities of searching over half a million unique listings around the world, running experiments in a two-sided marketplace, and the algorithms and technology we built to do it.

Free, but an RSVP is requiredA successful e-commerce platform requires an outstanding search engine – it is a major conversion driver that must be designed to balance a diverse set of user needs. The new generation of two-sided marketplaces, like Airbnb, presents a unique set of challenges that go far beyond the requirements of traditional search engines. They’re building technology that bridges the gap between online and offline worlds by serving as the matchmaker between over 600,000 properties and millions of guests, all with complex underlying marketplace dynamics.
Light fare & drinks will be served at 6 pm; the talk begins at 7 pm.
