Led by Lupin deMuth of American Steel Studios, experience the truly unique and eclectic art world existing in the country’s largest industrial art warehouse. Located in the heart of west Oakland, American Steel Studios is home to over 180 artists and entrepreneurs.

November’s tour will feature a selection of art work representative of the diversity housed at American Steel Studios. This is a rare opportunity to talk with artists about their process, view their work spaces and their latest work. The tour will cover artists working in a variety of mediums ranging from steel, wood, glass, paint, fire, and copper.

Meet at 2 pm at American Steel Studios, 1960 Mandela Pkwy at the warehouse main entrance on 20th St.

Following are just a few of the artists being featured:

The tour will begin with artist Stephen Bruce. Stephen’s medium of preference is copper, although he appreciates the beauty and unique characteristics of all aging metals. Stephen will be discussing the process of his art work and providing an opportunity for attendees to create their own piece of art.

Sheet Metal Alchemist will be leading a metal working demonstration and discussing their latest large art pieces which feature unique lighting and fire effects. Sheet Metal Alchemist was founded in 2008. Directed by Sean Cusack and Lara Edge, their mission is to fuse chemical engineering and materials science knowledge with a love of metal working in an effort to make innovative metal art pieces.

Thomas VanHouten will be hosting an open studio with his latest sculptures on display. From the artist, “My work explores the building of devices and models as products of belief and understanding. I’m interested in why people build things and what motivates the mind to ingenuity. The fabrication of my sculptures becomes a way of physically working through my ideas, and finding deeper understanding of my own beliefs.”
