Anniversary of Sea Lion’s Arrival to Pier 39 | Fisherman’s Wharf

Today was intended to be a big party to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Sea Lions coming to Pier 39, but, alas, migration has taken its toll and most of the 1,701 sea lions that called Pier 39 home just a few short months ago have unexpectedly left for Oregon shores.

So instead of a 20th anniversary party (which we’re told has been “postponed”, not cancelled), docents from The Marine Mammal Center will be on hand at Pier 39’s K-Dock on Friday 1/15 and Saturday 1/16 from 11am to 4pm to help explain what has happened to the sea lions and to inform the public about their recent atypical behavior.
