Petaluma Historical Museum | 20 Fourth Street, Petaluma, CA

President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the ringing of the bells nationwide on Independence Day, July 4, 1963, with the words, “Let’s ring freedom bells.”

On the steps of the museum, hear the story of JFKs Bell-ringing Proclamation, the Putnam Family, the Korbel Bell and how it became an artifact of the Museum.

The Petaluma Historical Museum is keeping the tradition alive by having local Boy Scouts raise the flag as people listen to a proclamation by the mayor at 10:30 am on July 4, 2019.

At 11 am, everyone is also welcome to get in line and ring the bell. Complimentary homemade cookies and lemonade will follow.
