Join San Francisco archival repositories for San Francisco’s 3rd Archives Crawl. San Francisco’s Archives Crawl is designed to celebrate archives in the Bay Area and encourages guests to explore and engage with institutions that collect, preserve, and provide access to archival material.

Visit institutions you may not have visited before, pose questions, learn more about what an archive is and what archivists do, and view archival materials closeup.

The theme for the crawl is The Histories of California in 10 Objects and we are celebrating in October which is American Archives Month.

Pick your own starting point at one of these two institutions. Aim to set a personal goal of visiting both locations:

  • California Historical Society, 678 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94105
  • Labor Archives & Research Center, J. Paul Leonard Library, Room 460 4F, San Francisco State University, 1630 Holloway Ave, San Francisco, CA 94132

When you visit California Historical Society, you’ll also meet archivists and see archives from:

  • GLBT Historical Society
  • National Archives at San Francisco
  • San Francisco History Center, SF Public Library
  • SFMOMA

When you visit Labor Archives, J. Paul Leonard Library, San Francisco State University, you’ll also meet archivists and see archives from:

  • Environmental Design Archives
  • California State Archives
  • Archives of the Archdiocese of San Francisco
  • Sutro Library, California State Library
  • University Archives, San Francisco State University
  • Global Museum, San Francisco State University
