Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic a year ago, there has been a sharp increase in anti-Asian violence and other hate incidents across the country. All Asian Americans are currently at heightened risk of being targets of racist attacks, even in the San Francisco Bay Area. Out of concern for the safety of our Japantown and the greater Japanese American community, we are working with the staff and attorneys at Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO) to provide everyone with a community safety webinar to address the recent rise in anti-Asian violence. National Japanese American civil rights organization JACL will also provide additional remarks for community members outside the Bay Area. This webinar is also supported by our community co-sponsors, National JACL, JACL NCWNP District Council, JACL CCDC, Japantown Task Force, Japantown Community Benefit District, Inc., and Japantown for Justice.
BE SAFE. BE READY.
In this webinar, you will:
• Learn about anti-Asian violence happening here and around the country
• Learn what to do and who to contact if you witness or experience a hate incident, including legal and law enforcement resources
• Hear updates on safety measures and tips on how to stay safe from hate in San Francisco Japantown and beyond
• Find out what else you can do NOW to help keep our community safe!
APILO staff will also take questions from the audience at the end of the program. Please join us and share this information widely!

About API Legal Outreach:
Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was founded in 1975 as Nihonmachi Legal Outreach to promote the development, empowerment, and self-reliance of the community through the provision of culturally competent and linguistically appropriate legal, social, and educational services to those with extraordinary needs. Through these community-based services, API Legal Outreach works to break the cycle of violence against women, youth and seniors, to advocate for the rights of immigrants and those with disabilities, to promote the dignity and independence of seniors and advocate for the basic rights such as affordable housing and the rights of tenants.
