Jenkins Johnson Gallery, is proud to present its first solo exhibition by interdisciplinary West Coast artist Sadie Barnette. “From Here” will feature drawings, collage, photography, and found objects, exploring the abstraction of urban space and the transcendence of the mundane to the imaginative.
The works are inspired by “Compland”, an imagined cultural space that blends the cities of Compton and Oakland. The show also includes works based on a 500-page FBI surveillance file from the 1960s and 1970s on her father, Rodney Barnette, a member of the Black Panther Party and a member of the National United Committee to Free Angela Davis
