“Golden Thread” Middle Eastern Staged Reading Series | SF

Golden Thread’s popular staged reading series returns, introducing five singular voices to the Bay Area. They invite you to laugh, cry, and think alongside these beautiful stories from and about the Middle East. Each play is teeming with unexpected humor, surprising characters, and important questions about the world we live in today.

You will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage the director and the cast in conversation after each reading. Join the creative process of a new play and discover brilliant gems never before seen in the Bay Area.

Free, but reservations are recommended. Email boxoffice@goldenthread.org with the performance you’d like to attend and the number of tickets you’re requesting.

“The facts of my own identity have always been elusive for me. I never intended to be Iranian, you see. I wanted to be a white American. I still want to be a white American.”

Saïd Sayrafiezadeh has written an autobiographical play about growing up Iranian-Jewish in the U.S. in the 70’s and 80’s. As he and his well-meaning collaborators try to stage his script, things go quickly from bad to worse. Whiting Award–winning playwright and novelist Sayrafiezadeh (Brief Encounters with the Enemy) brilliantly pokes fun at the complications of hyphenated identity in America.

Autobiography of a Terrorist is part of New Threads 2015, Golden Thread’s popular staged reading series. This year’s series introduces five singular voices to the Bay Area. We invite you to laugh, cry, and think alongside these beautiful stories from and about the Middle East! Each play is teeming with unexpected humor, surprising characters, and important questions about the world we live in today.
