Awesöme Orchestra | Epic Free Classical Concerts
Awesöme Orchestra brings people together for musical adventures. Their free sessions are part performance, part open rehearsal. They provide the sheet music, and anyone is welcome to play or to listen.
The Awesöme Orchestra Collective is the Bay Area’s most adventurous reading orchestra, dedicated to playing excellent orchestral music of all kinds with amazing musicians in a fun, casual environment focused on high musicianship. Their events are always free, but they ask for a pay-what-you-will donation to help cover basic costs.
In their third collaboration with National Night Out, they’re excited to perform in the outdoor courtyard of the Oakland Public Library. They’re fighting crime and making some awesöme music while they’re at it.
As always, it’s free for musicians and audiences, but an RSVP is required.
One of the three pieces they’re playing for Open Session 52 that deserves special attention is “Requiem Without Words,” written in loving memory of the victims killed in the Ghost Ship fire last year, and in consolation to those of us who lost someone dear. They are honored to premiere this piece, written by Awesöme Ambassador Arturo Rodriguez.
To deepen your music appreciation, they have some bacchanalian musicology on their blog about the first piece they’re playing: “Grand cortège de Bacchus” from “Sylvia” by Léo Delibes.
And last but not least, they’re phoning home to the ’80s with “E.T.: Adventures on Earth” by John Williams.
