Banned Books Week 2014
Banned Books Week is the national book community’s annual celebration of the freedom to read and takes place from September 21-27, 2014.
Hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country draw attention to the problem of censorship by mounting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events.
The Alameda Free Library will be hosting a community Banned Books Week Reading Marathon all week from September 21-27, 2014.
Free, but please sign up to read at the Reference Desk at the Main Library, email alamedafree@gmail.com or call 510-747-7713.
The theme for 2014 is Comic Books & Manga, but you can sign up to read out loud for up to 30 minutes from one of the hundreds of banned and challenged books (supplied by the Library). You may read once, once per day, multiple times per day and/or multiple times during the week. Groups, as well as individuals, may participate.
