Winston Smith’s Studio Fallout partners once again with the legendary record label Alternative Tentacles to present The Bat Show 3.0, a special holiday edition featuring a retrospective of Smith’s original “bat” icon alongside more than 45 new artist interpretations. This year, Studio Fallout and Alternative Tentacles join forces with 111 Minna Gallery to showcase the exhibition in their iconic downtown San Francisco space.

The Bat Show 3.0 will take place December 19th from 5–10 pm at 111 Minna Gallery for a one-night-only pop-up party. Returning for the third consecutive year with longtime collaborator Jello Biafra, Winston Smith revisits one of punk’s most recognizable symbols. The show highlights rare works from the Alternative Tentacles permanent collection as well as brand-new pieces curated specifically for this event, celebrating San Francisco’s rich history of counterculture and two of its most influential voices: Winston Smith and Alternative Tentacles.

Reflecting on the origins of the iconic bat, Smith shared: “It was based on a chicken-scratch rendering that Biafra suggested to me over 40 years ago, and on cartoons I used to pass around the classroom when I was 9 or 10.” He adds, “It’s been very gratifying to see the totally cool re-interpretations of my basic bat design by artists and fans over the last 45 years.”

Exclusive event merchandise from Studio Fallout and Alternative Tentacles will be available during the show.

***For those unable to make the December 19th event: 111 Minna Gallery will be open the following day, Saturday December 20th from 12 – 5pm. The cafe will be open and ‘The Bat Show 3.0’ will be on display, Winston and Chick will be in attendance to talk shop over hot coffee with any curious art goers and Punk Rockers!!!!
