Event Details

Post-election, what’s new for state and local government? Join KALW and our trusted newsroom partners for an in-depth discussion about how this election’s outcomes will effect the way we live in the Bay.

Joe Eskenazi was born in San Francisco, raised in the Bay Area, and attended U.C. Berkeley. He never left. “Your humble narrator” was a staff writer and columnist for SF Weekly from 2007 to 2015, and a senior editor at San Francisco Magazine from 2015 to 2017. He resides in the Excelsior with his wife and kids, 4.3 miles from his birthplace and 5,474 from hers.

Marisa Kendall covers California’s homelessness crisis for CalMatters. With more than six years of experience navigating this complex topic, Marisa has won multiple awards for her sensitive, comprehensive coverage. She strives to provide nuanced, in-depth reporting that both explains convoluted California policy and highlights the stories of people on the street affected by Sacramento’s decisions.

Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez is a politics reporter for The Standard. He was raised in San Francisco and has spent his career in his beloved, foggy, city by the bay. Joe is a proud alum of City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. He most recently wrote for KQED’s politics team, and previously penned a local political column for the San Francisco Examiner. Joe began reporting at 12-years-old, when he grilled former mayor Willie Brown for the Marina Middle School newspaper, The Penguin Press. When not reporting, Joe enjoys playing retro video games and is a die-hard Trekkie.

Moderated by Ben Trefny, KALW Executive Producer

Ben Trefny has been part of the KALW family since 2004. As Executive News Editor and then News Director, he helped our news department win numerous regional and national awards for long- and short-form journalism. He also helped create numerous training programs — for teenagers, incarcerated people, and early-career journalists — and have taught hundreds of audio producers. He served as interim Executive Director for nearly two years.

His work is currently focused on creating original live events, programming, and building partnerships with like-minded organizations. He oversees KALW’s community space at 220 Montgomery Street in downtown San Francisco where he organizes town hall conversations, film screenings, literature readings, concerts, and fundraisers. He also curates the 111 Minna Street stage for Downtown First Thursdays.

There is a $10 – $20 sliding scale suggested donation for this event. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. We’re hosting this gathering to help inform the electorate.
