Event Details

Join expert attorneys to learn how the law works for renters and landlords. Bring your questions & share your perspectives live & in person.

Join us for a live, in-person recording of Your Legal Rights, KALW’s long-running weekly program that helps Bay Area residents understand how the law works in real life.

This special episode brings together a panel of expert attorneys to break down key legal issues affecting renters and landlords, from rights and responsibilities to navigating disputes and changes in housing law. You’ll hear practical insights, real-world examples, and clear explanations designed for everyday people—not legal insiders.

Bring your questions, share your perspectives, and be part of the conversation live and in person. Whether you’re a renter, a landlord, or simply want to better understand housing law in the Bay Area, this interactive event offers a rare chance to engage directly with legal experts and experience public radio as it’s made.

Your Legal Rights host, attorney Jeffrey B. Hayden, represents the residents of the Bay Area in California, which includes the cities in the metro areas of San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and Palo Alto. He focuses his practice on criminal defense and juvenile offenses. Listen to Your Legal Rights, a weekly program providing free legal information and guidance for listeners on KALW.

Jessica L. Chylik established her solo practice in 2007 to specialize in San Francisco residential evictions, vacancy agreements, and Rent Board petitions for tenants, landlords, master tenants, and subtenants. Her expertise encompasses 20+ years of practicing landlord-tenant law under the San Francisco Rent Ordinance.

David G. Finkelstein has a law practice focused on commercial real estate and real estate-related transactions with primary emphasis on commercial lease negotiating and drafting, representing both landlords and tenants. He also deals with other commercial real estate transactions, including sales and acquisitions, property development and financing matters, and IRC section 1031 exchanges.

Salvatore C. Timpano has more than twenty years of litigation experience, and has worked on thousands of landlord-tenant, personal injury, privacy, and landlord tenant cases. He has represented clients in settlements collectively valued in the millions.

Come early to see Raymundo Valdez’s Prismatic City: Landmarks in Light, a solo art exhibition showing the city as it lives: layered, luminous, & constantly changing. RSVP for the March 6 opening here. The show is on view at KALW’s Live Event Studio Art Gallery through April 10.

There is a $10 – $20 sliding scale suggested donation for this event. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
