The 2021 Norcal Youth Empowerment Conference
“Youth to Youth (Y2Y)”
Calling all youth who want to create positive change in your community!! Sign up now for an amazing youth leadership conference on Saturday, April 24 from 9:30 am-3:30 pm. The NorCal Youth Empowerment Conference “Youth 2 Youth” (Y2Y) is a collaborative online conference for youth to hear from civic leaders, network with like-minded youth leaders, and share opportunities and ideas for being civically engaged in your community. Key speakers will join the conference such as Congresswoman Jackie Speier; State Senator Josh Becker; former State Senator Jerry Hill; East Palo Alto Councilman Antonio Lopez; Belmont City Councilmember Davina Hurt; Redwood City Councilmember Jeff Gee; Cesar Chavez’ grandson, Anthony Chavez, an advocate for youth civic engagement; and other local and state civic leaders in public and private arenas. In session one, network with other youth to discuss topics such as the environment, immigration, health, education/economic recovery, social justice, animal rights, and women’s rights — featuring an update from Congresswoman Speier’s office on the Equal Rights Amendment. In session two, improve your leadership and learn how to affect change through: social media, effective advocacy, community collaboration, inclusion, design thinking, and knowing how politics affect change. In session three, learn how to get more civically involved with youth organizations in the Bay Area. This event is for youth to learn how to get involved and take action!
This conference is free for youth <21, and is organized and hosted by the Civic Engagement Committee, San Mateo Youth Commission SMYC
