Beard Club, a documentary about the social politics of facial hair, will have its San Francisco premiere Friday, June 22 at the Artists’ Television Access with the filmmakers. The film explores the hidden meanings of facial hair. Facial hair fans of all types will be treated to 56 minutes of the history of hirsute.

The screening will kick off with a beard contest. They invite Mission hipsters, Brian Wilson fans, Bay Area hippies and others to put their best whiskers forward. Feel free to just come out and cheer on your favorite facial hair. Winners will receive a copy of the Beard Club poster. The first 10 entrants who name their favorite facial hair style will receive free bottles of Beardsley Beard Shampoo and Conditioner or mustache wax, if that that better suites their style.

About the Film: Filmmaker Laura J. Lukitsch discovered in her six-year journey, that almost every man as a beard or mustache story. BEARD CLUB takes the viewer through twelve cities and six countries as Lukitsch uncovers the hidden meanings associated with facial hair by listening to the stories of men and women from various social, cultural and religious backgrounds. Interviewees include religious men, ZZ Top, former 60’s activists, world beard competitors, a bearded woman, and a young Arab graphic novelist.
