As President-Elect Joe Biden inches closer to the White House on January 20th 2021, Scotland’s political forces rally for a potential ally.
Since the election, growing tensions from the British political right has galvanized the halls of government as Joe Biden responded to the BBC’s call for comment with the chipper singular phrase: “I’m Irish.” Meanwhile, the Scottish National Party (SNP) has beckoned this statement as an ignited hope for a re-emergence for Scottish independence. Will Joe Biden be a friend or foe to Scotland?
In this exclusive talk presented by the Saint Andrew’s Society of San Francisco, Ian Houston, columnist and Ambassador for the Scottish Business Network, will discuss the future implications of a Biden-Harris administration on Scotland’s people and the relationship Scotland will have with the United States going forward.
This 45-minute talk is open to the public, followed by a brief curated question and answer session.
Ian Houston has spent his career in Washington, DC as an international non-profit leader, a policy advocate for diplomatic engagement and global poverty alleviation, and intercultural dialogue. He formerly worked in the U.S. Congress on policy staff. Ian currently serves as a consultant and as the Ambassador for the Scottish Business Network (SBN) in Washington, DC. He writes a column for the Herald Scotland and is the author of the book Under Candle Bright.
