Blue Endeavors, an Alameda-based ocean conservation nonprofit, will host “Sharktoberfest” on Saturday, October 13 to raise funds and awareness on the importance of protecting sharks in the world’s ecosystems. Sharktoberfest is open to the public and will begin with a beach cleanup at 2 p.m., followed by a fun, informative shark-themed fundraiser event with a beer bar, music, and various guest speakers from 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Taking place at Blue Endeavors’ headquarters at Alameda South Shore Center, the family-friendly community destination for shopping, dining and entertainment located on the banks of the San Francisco Bay, the fundraiser will feature live music by Congolese singer, songwriter, and activist Jaques Ibila. At 6:15 p.m., representatives from dive industry equipment manufacturer SCUBAPRO will unveil their new ocean conservation initiative in the Blue Endeavors Dive Store.

At 6:45 p.m., MC Shanon Draughon will introduce and thank the event’s sponsors, discuss Blue Endeavors’ eco-conscious mission, and introduce Blue Endeavors’ new shark achievement pin that will be offered to all divers and ocean advocates who complete the requirements. Special edition “shark beers” from Alameda Island Brewing and Sharktoberfest 2018 t-shirts will also be available for purchase.

Later in the evening at 6:45 p.m., Keynote Speaker David McGuire of Shark Stewards, a California-based organization that advocates the banning of shark finning and regulating the shark fin trade in the USA and the Pacific Rim, will address the audience. Lastly, attendees will be able to enjoy a screening of the shark documentary Blue Serengeti narrated by Dr. Sylvia Earle at 7:30 p.m.
