Some of the Bay Area’s best and brightest writers present an evening of storytelling, poetry, and spoken word at Oakland’s new Libros Libres (inside of Tilde).

Featuring:

The Bay Area Brit – Humo(u)rist (8:40 pm)
British writer and award-winning cartoonist Matty Stone, author of “The Americanization of Poe Ogdred,” has performed readings of his humorous essays at events all over the S.F. Bay Area including the LitQuake literary festival. Stone has drawn comics for San Francisco’s “The American Music Press” and The Improv Comedy Club. His comic strip “Stone’s Throw” was syndicated by The New Breed, a division of King Features.

Hollie Hardy – Poet (8:15 pm)
Hollie is the author of How to Take a Bullet, And Other Survival Poems (Punk Hostage Press, 2014). She teaches writing classes at San Francisco State and Berkeley City College. An active participant in the local literary scene, Hollie is co-host of Saturday Night Special, venue coordinator for Oakland’s Beast Crawl Literary Festival, and curator of Litquake’s Flight of Poets.

8pm: Intermission

Karen Finlay – Writer (7:40 pm)
Karen Finlay (not to be mistaken with the “other” Karen Finley) has her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College, and was the recipient of the Ardella Mills Scholarship and The Marion Boess Haworth Award in 2002 and 2003. Her work can be seen on Muni Diaries, her website, and Facebook status updates. She has been honored to read her work at Litquake, The Art Beat Foundation, The Mixing Bowl Reading Series, and The Rebel Reading Series. She is working on a Young Adult novel and a collection of personal essays about teen angst, a subject in which she is very well versed.

Zack Haber – Poet (7:15 pm)

Special Guest Master of Ceremonies: Tom Galbraith – Writer & Musician (7 pm)
Tom Galbraith has self-published three chap books, written songs, and has played drums most of his life. Tom’s readings often involve ukuleles, canned music and sing and read-a-longs.
