History Walk, Nature Sketching & Picnic | Briones Regional Park

Explore the highlands of Briones Regional Park, discovering the first signs of spring in the California hills and learning about the history of María Manuela Valencia de Briones and Jauna Briones from the California Historical Society lead archivist Marie Silva from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014.

Sketch, paint, and write your own experiences in your nature journal, share your work with others and enjoy the best in the field potluck lunch anywhere (you will hike about three miles round trip, so make your potluck contribution portable). Please note, there are bathrooms near the trail head, but not in the field.

Meet at the Briones Road staging area: Briones Road is accessed via Alhambra Valley Road, just west of the intersection with Reliez Valley Road (which intersects Pleasant Hill Road near Hwy 24). From Reliez Valley Rd., continue straight through the three-way stop sign (you’ll pass a huge barn on the left) and take an immediate left turn on a signed, small road just west of the intersection with Alhambra Valley Road. If you’re coming on Alhambra Valley Road from Martinez, make a right at the three-way stop and look for the immediate left on Briones Road. Follow Briones Road (narrow, winding road with some blind curves) all the way to the top. Maps, rest room, water at staging area.
