Join Ranger Alejandra as we celebrate Black History month with a 1.5 mile leisurely stroll through the Main Post of the Presidio and explore the story of the African American “Buffalo Soldiers”. Learn about their connection to the Presidio and other National Parks, as well as their extraordinary contributions to our nation in a time of overt racism and segregation. We’ll discuss how their actions helped facilitate many freedoms we enjoy today, including taking a hike in your national park! In addition, we will talk about how their individual trailblazing efforts served as a precursor to the Civil Rights movement, and why their story is still relevant today.
