Celebrate “National Mai Tai” Day with a 44¢ island cocktail at Trader Vic’s

On August 30, 2017, Trader Vic’s Emeryville celebrates National Mai Tai Day. To honor the occasion, your first Mai Tai of the evening will be just 44¢ to commemorate the year the iconic tropical cocktail was created in 1944.

Inspired by 17-year old rum from Jamaica, Victor “The Trader” Bergeron fashioned the drink for a few friends visiting from Tahiti. Upon first sip, they exclaimed “Mai Tai—Roa Aé!” which means “Out of this world—the best!” resulting in the beverage’s namesake.

The home of the Original Mai Tai will also offer live music and additional drink specials to commemorate the occasion. Guests can choose from a variety of pupus and island favorites like the legendary Crab Rangoons, Tuna Poké, and BBQ Ribs to complete the experience.
