New 82-Acre Waterfront Park Coming to East Bay
Big news for Bay Area nature lovers: the East Bay Regional Park District just bought 82 acres of shoreline at Point Molate in Richmond, officially preserving the land as public parkland and open space.
The $40M purchase from the Guidiville Rancheria of California means Point Molate’s stunning waterfront (with sweeping Bay views, historic Winehaven, and even old Native American sacred sites) will be protected forever and turned into a brand-new regional park.
Even better, plans are already moving forward to build out the Point Molate Bay Trail Extension Project, adding 2.5 miles of all-weather, ADA-accessible Bay Trail between Point Molate Beach Park and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Expect new picnic areas, restrooms, shoreline restoration, and cultural history exhibits along the way.
Park amenities and public access will roll out over the next few years, but for now, East Bay residents can celebrate a big win: more trails, more shoreline access, and a massive new regional park on the Bay.
