Bay Area’s Point Bonita Lighthouse Closes Indefinitely
Sausalito’s Point Bonita Lighthouse is currently inaccessible to the public.
A secret jewel of the Bay Area, the Point Bonita Lighthouse, built in 1855, was the third lighthouse built on the West Coast and helped shepherd ships through the treacherous Golden Gate straights. Today, the lighthouse is still active and is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.
According to the National Park Service, the suspension bridge that leads visitors to the Point Bonita Lighthouse is currently closed for maintenance until further notice.
Visitors may still visit Point Bonita during open hours and view the lighthouse from across the suspension bridge. The tunnel and trail leading towards the lighthouse/bridge will be open during the below hours of operation, with staff on site.
Sunset Tours of Point Bonita will still take place, however visitors will not be permitted to cross the suspension bridge.
