Muni’s top bell ringing crewmen compete in the 50th Cable Car Bell Ringing Contest starting at noon on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Union Square.

The contest typically features an amateur competition followed by the main contest with Gripmen and Conductors battling it out for the title of World Champion Cable Car Bell Ringer.

Motorized cable car #62 will be parked on Union Square serving as the centerpiece of the competition.

Following an amateur competition, cable car crew members will face-off for the chance to take home the title of World Champion Cable Car Bell Ringer. Defending champion Trini Whittaker will compete against six challengers. The 2013 bell ringing finalists are Ken Lunardi, Leonard Oats, Jorge Lacayo, Joseph Sue, Singh B. Rai and Ignacio Sandoval.

Live music from The Slot Blades (a band made up of Cable Car Grips and Conductors) plus an appearance by the 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders.
