Cable Car Races

Watch the annual tugging of cable cars and the “Santa Triathlon”
By - posted 12/5/2014 No Comment

At Brave the Bay you might see an elf in striped tights jump into the Bay, or Santa Claus hauling a cable car instead of presents at this Santa Triathlon that’s co-presented with the SF Police Department.

Teams of six pull cable cars by rope in a head-to-head battle against members of the San Francisco Police Department.

Brave the Bay 2014
Saturday, December 6, 2014 | 8:30 am to 1 pm
Aquatic Park, SF
FREE for spectators, or fundraise to participate

  • 8:30 am: Santa Walk and Fun Run
  • 10:30 am: Santa Plunge in the Bay
  • 11 am-1 pm: Santa Cable Car Pull
  • 9 am to 3 pm: Cops & Coffee: Your order at Buena Vista Cafe (famous for their Irish Coffee) will be served by a police officer. 100% of tips go to Make-A-Wish Foundation

Please note that some years Santa and his elves pull the cable car and other years he’s tired from delivering presents and just watches from the sidelines.

Come as a spectator (it’s free to watch) or join the fun to help raise money for Make-A-Wish. It costs just $25 to do the walk or take a plunge in the bay, or $150 for a team of 6 to do the cable car pull and you’ll be helping grant wishes for more children with life-threatening medical conditions.
