San Francisco Fire announces the 3rd annual Fire Station Community Holiday Decorations Competition for 2022.

During the 1940s, stations would compete for the best decorations and best-decorated stations for the Holiday seasons. This tradition was lost in the 1950s, and last year we brought it back. Firefighters and their respective stations are encouraged to participate and get creative!

In 2021, over 20 fire stations participated and this year, they’re hoping for more. One of the new editions for 2022 is the floating fire station #35 on the Embarcadero with two lighted fireboats.

The winning stations will get a prize to donate to a San Francisco-based charity of their choice.

The San Francisco Fire Credit Union is sponsoring the following:
• 1st place — $1500 To be donated to the charity of choice
• 2nd place — $1000 To be donated to the charity of choice
• 3rd place — $500 To be donated to the charity of choice

December 21, 2022: from 5 pm to 10 pm, the judges will tour selected stations. Community members are encouraged to join their local stations that entered the competition during this time. San Francisco Firefighters and “CODE-3” transportation will drive the judges. The judges will rate the community event and the evening visual experience. Each judging group will submit their top selections to the Grand Judge, Honorable Mayor London Breed, at the end of this tour, who will determine the top three winners, ranking from 1st place to 3rd place. The SF Chronicle will announce the winners and the charities the winners selected on the morning of 12-23-2022.

The public and media are encouraged to drive, walk, or bike by the stations during December and attend the station events on 12-21-2022 (The SF Chronicle will post a map of entered stations). Please consider sharing your experience on social media with the tag: #SFFDHOLIDAY.
