Chevron Refinery Spills 600 Gallons of Oil into SF Bay

Local beaches closed and investigation begins after oil spill from Long Wharf in Richmond on Tuesday

Thanks to ABC7 for letting us know about the oil spill from Chevron’s Refinery at Long Wharf Richmond that dumped 600 gallons of a mixture of petroleum and water in the San Francisco Bay on Tuesday afternoon, February 9th.

The pipeline leak, which was first noticed around 3pm, was leaking approximately five gallons a minute. The leak was stopped around 4:40p.

The Bay Area Air Quality District is investigating the spill and says it will post an incident report on its website later on Wednesday. Any violations will be issued once the investigation is completed.

The East Bay Region Park District has closed local beaches (Miller/Knox Regional Park and Keller beach) until at least noon on Wednesday.
