Driverless Vehicles (Without Any Humans) Coming to SF
General Motors’ Cruise autonomous vehicles will be soon be cruising the streets of San Francisco – sans humans.
The California DMV issued a permit on Thursday, October 15, to allow their vehicles to drive without any human backup drivers. Cruise expects their cars to be on the roads driving solo by the end of the year. They don’t have current plans for a ride service yet, before which they’d need additionals permissions from the government.
Cruise plans to launch their driverless vehicles one neighborhood at a time in San Francisco, starting in neighborhoods with less traffic before expanding into more complex trafficked areas. They’ll be hosting talks with locals in the neighborhood to answer questions.
