Tokyo Central, the much-anticipated Japanese grocery chain coming to Bay Street Emeryville (5603 Bay Street), has finally announced its opening date. The store will open on January 31, 2026, with a grand-opening weekend running through February 1. It’s the East Bay’s first Tokyo Central and only the second Bay Area location, joining the store in Cupertino.

Inside the 40,000+ sq. ft. store, you’ll find fresh sushi, sashimi, and bento boxes prepared daily, a wide selection of imported Japanese snacks, ramen, and pantry staples, and Japanese beer, sake, and other beverages. The store also carries health and beauty items, cosmetics, home goods, and wellness products.

The store will also feature an upscale Japanese restaurant, though the menu hasn’t been announced yet.
