OK, this is an odd one, but they may just be on to something.

Free Money Day” is a decentralized global “event” on September 15, 2013 in which people hand out their own money to complete strangers (either two coins or two bills at a time), asking recipients to pass half of the amount on to someone else.

The goal is raise awareness and start conversations about the benefits of more sharing economies; people will hand out their own coins, two at a time, asking people to pass one on to someone else.

“Give it a shot,” the organizers say and try to hand out some money to a complete stranger and ask them to pass it on, “It’s a liberating opportunity to explore our attachments to money and encourage more sharing economies.”
