Free Sourdough Starter From Bay Area’s “Phantom Baker” Until Sunday Only
It’s like the gold of 2020. Thanks to News24-680 for letting us know about the “Phantom Baker” sharing free sourdough starter in Walnut Creek.
Last Tuesday a mysterious baker with a talent for making sourdough bread decided to share it with the neighborhood. Outside the entrance to Buena Vista Elementary off San Juan Avenue is a self-help kiosk complete with a recipe and history of the starter which is over 100 years old along with sample containers of precious starter that are fresh and replenished every day.
Neighbors took samples of the homemade sourdough starter and recipe info and came up with all kinds of tasty delicacies like pancakes, biscuits, and pastries. They even shared it on their Facebook Page.
Sadly, Walnut Creek’s Phantom Baker must return to Life After Quarantine. The Sourdough Kiosk is closing down, the last day is on Sunday, May 3rd. You might want to pass by and take your free sample and recipe.
