In partnership with the San Francisco Parks Alliance and Illuminate, and thanks to generous philanthropic support, SF Rec and Park has completed renovations of the 120-year-old Spreckels Temple of Music bandshell.

Originally slated to be a centerpiece of Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary celebration in April, the opening was delayed due to COVID. However, the new stage, with built-in theatrical lighting and sound systems, is now complete.

Starting October 21–coinciding with the opening of the 150-foot tall Observation Wheel–the construction fence came down and the bandshell lights will begin to shine nightly from sunset to park closing.

SF Rec and Park looks forward to more fully celebrating with community performances on the stage, once health regulations allow.
