Iconic “Pioneer Tree” at CA State Park Has Burned Down
Sadly, the iconic “Pioneer Tree” at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Marin County is no longer standing.
A fire was reported in the park around 11:25 am on Thursday, March 24, and was contained to approximately 1/2 acre with no threat of further spread. Unfortunately, the 200-foot tall tree, which was one of the last remaining old-growth coastal redwood trees in the park, was fully engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation. Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire, and there was no need for any evacuations.
