Mavericks Epic Surf Contest: 2015/16 Season Opens

The biggest surfing contest in the world is right here in the Bay Area

Announced with just a few days notice because of waiting for ideal conditions for expected 20-50 foot waves, the 2015-16 Titans of Mavericks Surf Contest will take place in Half Moon Bay on one perfect day between November 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016.

The 24 best and most daring big-wave surfers in the world will attempt to tame the massive swells on the biggest and best day of the winter season. Once the season opens on November 1, the watching and waiting begins. The “call” is a perfect blend of art, science and experience: tracking the waves, the wind, the tides, the swell direction and duration, understanding the ideal weather conditions and taking that chance.

For the 2015/16 season it’s expected that the surf could be among the biggest ever due to unusually high sea temperatures caused by El Nino.

Viewing Options: How do I watch the contest?

  • Free Live Webcast: Titans of Mavericks will provide multiple ways to view and experience the event via RedBull.tv, plus a TV station to be announced closer to the event date.
  • Titans of Maverick’s Festival – Typically each year there is a ticketed festival and big screen viewing party for the competition that takes place near Half Moon Bay. Festival details should be posted on Facebook with about 48 hours notice.
  • No Beach Viewing of Mavericks – Due to public safety concerns of rogue waves there is no longer beach viewing of the contest anywhere near Pillar Point.
