Two Oakland Teens Mobilized 15k Peaceful Protesters for George Floyd
Thanks to ABC7 for showing us how two Oakland teens mobilized 15,000 people for a protest in honor of George Floyd.
Akil Riley and Xavier Brown, both 19-year-old, are childhood friends who came together to create a movement. They mobilized 15,000 people in the streets of Oakland on Monday in a peaceful protest over the death of George Floyd.
“To have a solidarity march really to say ‘we feel you Minneapolis, Oakland feels you,'” said Howard University student, Akil Riley.
When asked, what has this movement taught them about the power of their generation:
Riley said, “I hope it changed people’s ideas about how they can do something,” “I think it gave people hope that the youth have the power to organize,” said Brown.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf praised the peaceful protest.
