Aunt Charlie’s Might Close… The Last Queer Bar in Tenderloin
Thanks to Hoodline for letting us know the sad news that the Tenderloin’s Aunt Charlie’s Lounge needs help and might permanently close in August.
Aunt Charlie’s Lounge is the Tenderloin’s last drag bar, a historical landmark, and a symbol of the city’s vital queer and trans culture. The business closed its doors in March due to COVID-19. Without your financial support, Aunt Charlie’s will not survive and will close for good on August 1st.
Let’s keep our beloved Aunt Charlie’s Lounge, “The Last Queen Standing” in the San Francisco Tenderloin, holding court at the historic corner of Vicki Mar Lane & Compton’s Cafeteria Way aka Turk & Taylor since 1987, that’s 33 years of providing community, camaraderie, and cocktails for a truly diverse “family” whose members come from every walk of life; it is a place especially welcoming of our honored LGBTQ+ elders and low-income residents. Help her “Keep Calm & Carry On”, Drinking, Dragging & Dancing” into the future.
OK y’all ! The only thing saving me from burning out like a Roman candle is knowing that one day I will be sitting at #AuntCharlies again drinking the best Manhattan in town w/ my TL community 💃💅🏻🍸🏉🌈
