San Francisco just added a stunning new public art piece along the Embarcadero. Mareas, by artist Ana Teresa Fernández, is now permanently installed at the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal Plaza at Pier 27.

Named Mareas, Spanish for “tides,” the archway mirrors the movement of light and water across the Bay in flowing blues and shimmering forms. Standing more than 13 feet tall and nearly 27 feet wide, it creates a striking new gateway to the plaza and the city beyond.

Fabricated in steel and polycarbonate resin, Mareas is designed to change how visitors experience the space, inviting reflection, play, and a fresh perspective on the city’s shoreline.

Where to find it: Pier 27 Cruise Terminal Plaza, along the Embarcadero between Chestnut and Lombard streets.
