SF Has a Rave-Themed Art Exhibit at Asian Art Museum
The Asian Art Museum is turning up the volume with Rave into the Future, a new exhibition on view through January 12, 2025. Instead of quiet galleries, expect pounding beats, flashing lights, and a giant copper dance floor you can actually move on. The show highlights women and queer artists from the West Asian diaspora who tap into club culture, sound, and underground art scenes to create space for joy, connection, and community.
Visitors will find everything from glitter-scattering Roombas to room-scale video works and interactive sound installations. The exhibition explores how music and dance have long offered a sense of belonging for those pushed to the margins, while also celebrating the global rise of West Asian electronic music. Throughout the run, DJ sets and special performances will keep the energy shifting so no two visits feel the same.
Free First Sundays are the best deal. Museum admission is free and special exhibition tickets drop to $15. Advance reservations are highly recommended since walk-up availability is limited. Regular exhibition admission is $25 for adults. Additional free museum access is available through Museums for All and Discover & Go library passes.
The museum is hosting a few special events for the exhibition, including (free with admission):
Nov. 6, 2025 | 5 pm | Senza + Local DJ Open Call | Trap and bass set by Korean American producer SENZA | Includes a local DJ open-call
Nov. 13, 2025 | 5 pm | DJ set and conversation with Arshia Fatima Haq of Discostan | Part performance, part talk
