The Ferry Building shuts down 26 shops to comply with COVID restrictions on “indoor malls”

Thanks to the SF Chronicle for letting us know that the Ferry Building is being forced to temporarily closed under the latest public health order after the city ruled that the Ferry Building was considered an “indoor mall.”

UPDATE – BACK OPEN: The Ferry Building has been reclassified as a “transport terminal” by the state and is allowed to reopen – 7/23/20

All “interior” shops must close such as Cowgirl Creamery, Dandelion Chocolate and Humphry Slocombe, while any shop with a dedicated exterior entrance is able to remain open such as Acme Bread, Hog Island, Gott’s, Sur la Table and the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

Pursuant to the State of California’s July 13, 2020 Statewide Public Health Officer Order, malls and certain other indoor activities are being restricted. Currently San Francisco is on the state’s watch list and thus, the Ferry Building’s interior retail stores must temporarily discontinue serving customers indoors.

Shops on the interior Marketplace without dedicated doors to the outside are restricted from serving customers indoors until further direction is provided from the SF Department of Public Health and the City Attorney. Interior shops can offer curbside pick-up–all transactions and orders may only occur online or by phone. Please keep an eye on our website for a list of merchants that will be providing curbside pick-up.

Exterior shops still open

The following shops with dedicated exterior entrances will remain open for business:
