Wait, What? Ferry Building Reopens After One Day Closure

SF’s Ferry Building was forced to shut yesterday, only to be allowed to reopen today due to being reclassified as a “transport terminal”

Our head is spinning… Is there any real difference safety-wise between a transport terminal and an indoor mall? Apparently so.

Yesterday it was announced at the Ferry Building was classified as an “indoor mall” and therefore needed to shut down pursuant to the city’s latest public health order.

Today (July 23), it was announced that the Ferry Building has been notified that the state of California reclassified the building as a transport terminal, rather than an indoor shopping mall.

Effective immediately, shops and restaurants inside the building can resume serving customers indoors in accordance with the latest directives from the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

The Ferry Building website will be updated on an ongoing basis to reflect the latest information on open merchants and hours.
